What is the standard?

Our glass reinforced polyester laminate, which is the primary material across our product range, is type tested to be fire retardant adhering to UL 94, the Standard for Safety of Flammability of Plastic Materials for Parts in Devices and Appliances. V-0 classification relate to materials commonly used in manufacturing enclosures and is applicable to our laminates which are of thickness 6mm or less.

How is it tested?

V-0 classification testing is undergone with the laminate in a vertical position to determine the material’s tendency to either extinguish or spread the flame once the specimen has been ignited. The vertical rating V-0 indicates that the material was tested in a vertical position and self-extinguished within 10 seconds after the ignition source was removed in a controlled laboratory. The vertical ratings also indicate whether the test specimen dripped flaming particles that ignited a cotton indicator located below the sample.

Where is it tested?

Our laminate is type tested at the renowned international testing laboratory Exova Warrington to certify our products for being fire retardant; applicable to the supply to the United States. Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) is an American safety consulting and certification company which participates in the safety analysis of electricity and the drafting of safety standards for electrical devices and components. UL provides safety-related certification, validation, testing, inspection, auditing, advising and training services to a wide range of manufacturers.
